Comments on ThinkGist are for thoughtful discussion of the news. These guidelines explain what we expect. By commenting you also agree to our Terms of Use.
1. What we ask of you
Be respectful. Disagree with ideas, not with people.
Use plain English that a global readership can follow, and avoid phrasing that could easily be read as offensive.
Stay on the story. Add something: a fact, a source, a considered view.
Be honest about what you know. Do not present rumours or guesses as facts.
2. What is not allowed
Hate speech, or attacks on people because of their religion, caste, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, nationality or similar characteristics.
Harassment, bullying, threats, or encouraging violence or self-harm.
Sharing other people's private information (such as addresses, phone numbers or documents).
Content that is illegal in India or that promotes illegal activity.
Sexually explicit or graphically violent material.
Pretending to be someone else.
Spam, advertising, scams or links to promote yourself or others.
Knowingly spreading false information, or posting the same message again and again.
3. Reporting a comment
If you see a comment that breaks these guidelines, report it from the app (the report option on the comment). Reports go to us, and we review them.
4. What we do about it
We may remove comments, warn readers, and suspend or close accounts that break these guidelines or the Terms of Use. Where a comment is illegal or puts someone at risk we may act at once and may tell the authorities. Our decisions are our own judgement and we cannot explain every one in detail.
If you think we got it wrong, write to info@thinkgist.com and we will take another look.
